Romanian Sausages (Mititei)

5 Cloves garlic, peeled
1/4 c Water
1 lb Ground chuck
2/3 lb Coarsely ground pork
1 ts Baking soda
1 1/2 ts Salt
1 ts Black pepper
1/2 ts Dried thyme, whole
1/2 ts Dried basil
1/2 c Beef stock

Crush the garlic well in the water, using a fork. Stir the meat, baking soda, seasonings, and garlic puree together. Add Beef Stock and mix well. For each sausage, take 1/3 cup of the meat mixture, and roll between the palms of your hands into a sausage shape about 4 inches long. Place sausages side by side in a container and cover. Refrigerate overnight so that the flavors can blend. These are excellent on the grill. They may also be broiled or baked in the oven. Broil the sausages about 3 minutes per side until cooked through and browned.. HINT: When hand rolling sausages or meatballs of any kind, keep a small bowl of water near you so that you can keep your hands a bit wet. This way the meat will not stick to your hands.

7 Tips Every Woman Needs to Know - Unleash Your Inner Sassiness!

Ladies, you’ve done everything “they” expected of you. You know who I’m talking about; your parents, professors, mentors, supervisors – the list goes on. You have made it through college and your career is on track. You even managed to save some money, pay down those student loans and make a few investments.

But, you still feel like something’s missing. Is it you? Do you feel like you have some how gotten lost in the fray? Well, now’s the time to get “IT” back! You know, that “little” you that’s been lying dormant for so long, that “sassy” you that’s been squelched by overwhelming work schedules, meetings and unending obligations. Get back that special “sassiness” you remember so well before “life” set in.

We all have a “sassy” little sista inside us and she is dying to get out. Wake her up and let her run rampant in your world for a while and you both will have some fun! But, don’t forget to give her the ground rules, lest she go buck wild!

1. Self-esteem is critical. Hold yourself in high regard. Know that you are worthy. Love yourself, flaws and all because many times that which we see as flaws others see as our “uniqueness”. All that encompasses you makes you beautiful. You are a queen!

2. Educate yourself. I know, I know, been there done that. But, we have a tendency to get so caught up in work that we don’t always keep up with what’s going on in the world around us. Take the time to see a play, read a classic or take a class. Then, when you meet someone new, you will actually have something interesting to contribute to the conversation (besides work!).

3. Communicate effectively. What you say and the manner in which you say it speaks volumes. Refrain from using profanity, because there is nothing “sassy” about that!

4. Indulge and beautify. Treat yourself to a day at the spa. Go for a classic hairstyle that is easy to maintain. Get a manicure and a pedicure. And, if you are really feeling “wicked”, try a European body wrap and detoxify your body. You will love it! One of my personal favorites, make an appointment for a MAC make-over. While you’re there, ask the artist to teach you a few techniques that you can use to achieve the same results.

5. Foundations. Enough can not be said about the importance of quality foundation garments. No woman’s arsenal would be complete without an authentic corset. I am not talking about those flimsy bustiers (they call them corsets but they’re not) that your lingerie department offers. I am referring to quality authentic corsets, hands down one of the best investments a woman can make in herself.

If you need your spirits (and your self image) lifted, just put one on and you will wonder how you ever lived without one. An authentic corset will instantly make you appear thinner by nipping in your waist, flattening your stomach and accentuating all your curves from bust to buttocks. Authentic corsets are the most sensual items of clothing a woman can wear, not only are they functional but they are also beautiful whether worn underneath as a foundation or as part of your clothing ensemble. In the words of a fashion maven, “the perfect hourglass figure is made not born.”

6. Classic attire. Building a classic wardrobe is essential for the sassy sista. Classic pieces don’t have to cost a small fortune but they do need to be of high quality. By selectively purchasing clothing made with clean lines, high quality fabric, durable stitching and hand sewn lining, not only will you find that your clothing fits better but they will also last longer saving your money.

The seventh and final tip is time and attitude. Stop for a moment to enjoy your “little” sista, Sassy! Keep a positive attitude, because a zeal for life can be contagious and I can’t think of better thing to catch!

Strategies for Change: Setting Realistic Goals

Here's a framework for setting goals and objective - crucial preliminary step for making changes:

Determine your goal or objective. Define it in words and on paper. Then test your definition against your own value system. Can you attain your goal and still be the person you want to be?

Think in terms of evolution, not revolution. Revolutionary changes only inspire counterrevolutions.

If you want to change the way you eat, start by changing just one meal a week.

Identify your resources. Do you have the knowledge, skills, finances, time - whatever it takes? Find out from others who know. Be sure you're ready for the next step.

Systematically analyze barriers. How can missing resources be acquired? Identify and select alternative plans. List solutions for any obstacles you foresee.

Choose a plan. Think it through, step by step, trying to anticipate what might go wrong and why.

Grocery Shopping List Power – Step 1 In Saving Grocery Money

A grocery shopping list can be the front line tool you use in saving money on your grocery budget each month.

There are several more sophisticated ways to save grocery money, but none is easier or faster to implement than the lowly grocery shopping list.

Interestingly, this is a tool that almost everyone knows about, yet very few people actually use it in a systematic and reliable way.

For those folks who are not convinced of a grocery list's potential power in household management, here's what happens when you DON'T use one.

--You lose money. Without a grocery shopping list, a shopper is at the mercy of "what looks good" in a grocery store.

Believe me, if you shop this way, you WILL find something that looks irresistible. And costs more than you might have spent with a list.

Why? Simple. It is the grocery stores' job to entice you to spend money in their stores. That's how they stay in business. There's no problem with that. But it's YOUR business to get the best value for your money...unless you don't care how much you spend on your groceries each month.
In which case you probably wouldn't be reading an article like this one.

--You lose time. Using a grocery shopping list means you can enter your favorite grocery store, fly up and down the aisles one time, and be ready to check out in the fraction of time of another shopper who uses the 'browse' method of grocery shopping.

And if you're under the mistaken impression that you'll need to spend lots of upfront time figuring out what to put on your grocery list, well, you don't.

Hang your grocery list in a prominent place in your kitchen and train your family to use it. Then your list will be ready to go shopping when you are.

-- You lose nutrition. Using a grocery shopping list means you get EXACTLY what you want at the store; and that includes the nutrition you want for your family. You call the shots on how much fat, salt and sugar your family consumes. You can decide to emphasize whole grains and whether raw vegetables, frozen or canned will grace your family's dinner table.

In short, with a grocery list, you are in control.

--You lose efficiency. Ever stand in your grocery store and think to yourself, "well, I know I need some frozen veggies (or broth, or canned fruits, or favorite mixes, etc.) to keep on hand for that easy throw-together recipe my family likes. But I can't remember what I already have at home. I'll just get a couple of bags of SOMETHING to keep on hand."

Fast forward to the night you want to actually COOK that wonderful food for your family. You discover you've got two bags of frozen broccoli and three bags of frozen stir-fry veggies, but what you NEED is a bag of frozen corn.

A grocery shopping list could have helped you bring home the corn. Without the extra stir-fry. Using a grocery list means you have what you actually need in your pantry when you need it. Plus, you'll end up with less throw-away food, too, since you're purchasing what you know your family will eat within a given period of time.

Bottom line, if you're serious about saving money at the grocery store, the first thing you'll want to use is a grocery shopping list. It's easy and you can start using one today. (For a free printable grocery shopping list, see the author's resource box at the end of this article.)

Whether you're a college student learning how to grocery shop for the first time, a newly married couple establishing a budget, or a mom whose family has grown and the grocery budget has developed a mind of its own, the place to start to regain control is the lowly grocery shopping list.

Six Foolproof Steps to Finding and Choosing a Professional Hair Braider

So, you've decided to have your hair braided. Wonderful! A foundation in African culture, braids are a stylish way to create a new look, and a great alternative when you want to give your stressed tresses a rest.

Now that you've decided to embark on the braid journey, finding someone qualified to bring your desired look to life can be challenging. There are a plethora of braiders to choose from, each conducting business on different levels.

Many braiders work in salons. They rent booth space and provide braiding services during salon hours. Some salons are exclusive to hair braiding. Other braiders freelance and do business from their home or yours. With so many options, how do you find a braider that is right for you?

In my own recent journey to finding a braider as I transition from a chemical relaxer to natural hair, I was faced with the very same question. After much braider drama over the years - from braiders in pajamas, braiders who braid too tight and braiders who stop to run errands and cook meals - I decided to be more selective in my search for a professional braider who met all of my criteria (more on that later).

Based on my new strategy, I've put together the following six steps to help you find and choose a professional braider that is right for you:

1. Make the Decision - You already know you want your hair braided. Now you must decide if you prefer the foundation of the salon environment, or if you prefer the more relaxed one-on-one setting you'll find with a freelance braider. You know your style and your comfort zone. Go with what makes sense for you.

2. Shop Around - Ask for referrals from family, friends, co-workers or your regular hair stylist. Look through the Yellow Pages under "Beauty Salons & Services" to find listings for braiders in your area. Check out Craigslist.com for your area as well. A lot of salons and freelance braiders take advantage of this free form of advertising to generate business. Do a search for "braids" in the "services" section of Craigslist. And remember while shopping, many states do not require braiders to have a cosmetology license for their services. For more on this subject and to see your state's requirements (if listed), click here: http://cornrowsandco.com/politicsSub.cfm?politicsID=2.

3. See the Work - While in the shopping stage, you definitely only want to consider braiders whose work you can actually see. If they were a referral you've probably seen the work firsthand on someone. If you found them in the Yellow Pages or on Craigslist, ask if they have a website or online photo album that you can view if it isn't already listed in their advertisement.

4. Choose Three - Take your time to really study the braiders on your list. Consider prices, creativity of style and location convenience. Look for a slight edge that makes them stand out (more on that in a bit). Make sure they know how to create the style you're looking for. Factor in all of these elements and choose your top three.

5. Visit - Contact your top three choices and arrange a time to meet face-to-face. Each visit should last no more than 15 minutes. That is more than enough time to survey your surroundings and get a feel for the person performing the services. I can't put enough value on the importance of meeting potential braiders face-to-face. Know what you're walking into before you walk into it.

Be up front and let them know that you are interviewing braiders and would like to come by to meet them personally. If they object, take them off your list. Otherwise, plan your visits within two to three days of each other so each experience is fresh in your mind and you can make a sound decision. If you're choosing to have your hair braided in a salon, you can usually walk in during normal business hours without an appointment. I still recommend making the arrangements ahead of time as a courtesy.

Quick Safety Tip: Always let someone know when you'll be visiting a new braider and give them all the contact information. You can never be too careful!

Once in front of each braider, ask the same set of standard questions so that you can compare the responses. Take notes and share your past experiences. Make sure your expectations are crystal clear.

Pay attention to the vibe you're feeling while you're with each braider, it makes a difference. And remember, the objective of the visit is to evaluate the overall level of professionalism. This is the time to tie in what you already know with what you will learn in the face-to-face visit to see if they match.

Here are the criteria you should look for from start to finish in a professional braider:

* Prompt - Answers your initial phone call or e-mail request for more information (such as price for a certain style) within 24-hours.

* Reliable - Someone who is dependable, punctual, and who will contact you immediately if their schedule changes.

* Appearance - They don't have to be dressed to strut down a runway, but they should at least be dressed!

* Focused - While braiding, the focus should be on the task at hand, not anything that will be a distraction from completing the job. In a salon or in a home, this is a business and it should be treated as such. Bathroom and lunch breaks within reason are of course acceptable.

* Clean - Surroundings should be clean and well kept. You want to feel comfortable and not have the creepy crawlies the entire time you're there. If getting extension hair and the braider provides the hair in their price, the hair should be new and in an unopened package. Never accept partially used hair.

* Friendly - While you may not become best friends with your braider, you do want to feel comfortable with the person who will be "in your head". Especially if this is someone you are considering going back to in the future.

* Hair Health Conscious - As mentioned earlier, there are a lot of braiders out there. Unfortunately, not enough of them are really tuned into the needs of hair. Braiding is a wonderful method to use to give the hair a rest so that it can grow to optimal potential. However, if done incorrectly, braids can cause severe damage and breakage. The hair braider you choose should be gentle, doesn't use a lot of tension while braiding, doesn't put too much extension hair on each braid that weighs down your natural hair, and should provide hair maintainence tips before, during and in-between each set of braids.

* Affordable - The person you choose should be someone whose work you like and their price fits within your budget. As a rule of thumb, freelancers should charge less than salon braiders. Don't forget to ask ahead of time what forms of payment are acceptable.

*Experience - Years of experience as well as experience with all types of ethnicities, hair textures and hair conditions are equally important. Someone with five years of experience may work with several clients who have balding and thinning issues, while someone with 15 years of experience may have limited exposure in this area. Think of your own needs and consider what works best for you.

* Slight Edge - Look for golden nuggets that make braiders stand out: websites; online photo albums; work guarantee (will correct mistakes free of charge or money back); location convenience; braiders who will accompany you to the beauty supply store to select the right type of hair; and freelance braiders who travel to you. These and other above average traits are all pluses that rank higher in the selection process.

6. Choose and Follow Up - Remember, this is a business transaction. You should not only expect professionalism, but you should also demonstrate professionalism in the process. Once you've made your choice, reconnect with each braider either by phone or e-mail to let them know your decision. Start with the braiders who didn't make the cut. Thank them for their time, let them know you chose to go with someone else and wish them continued success. Period. No explanation needed.

Next, contact the braider of your choice, thank them for their time and book your appointment!

In the end, I chose the mid-priced braider. She is very concerned about hair health, which is also of great importance to me. And while my appointment isn't until next month, I feel confident about my selection and the steps I took to make my decision.

Use these same steps to finding and selecting a professional braider and you will be well on your way to a great new look and an overall pleasant experience from start to finish. Happy braiding!

How to Start a Conversation Effortlessly

Who You Spend Time With Determines How Your Feel By: Debi Silber, Ms, Rd, Whc
Tell me who you spend your time with and I'll tell you how you feel. Sounds impossible? It's really not. You see, we often take on the feelings, behaviors and attitudes of those we spend time with. For example, let's say you have a friend or coworker who's always complaining. She's speaks negatively about her body, her job, her relationships and her life. She looks forward to spending time with you because it gives her an opportunity to vent and find relief. Once she's through, she feels lighter, freer and ready to go on with her day. She enjoys speaking to you because you're a great listener, enabling her to be heard and valued. That works for her but how do you feel? Chances are you feel drained, deflated and uninspired. Although your intention was to be a good friend, once you became involved emotionally in your friends negativity, you were brought right down with her.
Now on the other hand, let's say you have plans to see a friend who is lighthearted, enthusiastic and embraces life with eagerness and zest. Just thinking about this friend brings a smile to your face because you know you'll be having fun and enjoying each other's company. After your time together, you're excited about the rest of your day. You want to capture every moment and see all the beauty that's around you. Your friend may not have intentionally tried to alter your thinking but her positive approach and attitude was infectious.
Which person is better for your health? Studies show that positive thinkers have a 55% lower risk of death from all causes and 23% lower risk of death from heart failure. That's not to say that the more positive person doesn't experience anything unpleasant. In fact, the positive, optimistic person may have experienced more unfortunate situations than the negative, pessimistic person. The result of these experiences however leaves the positive thinker with a greater appreciation, perspective and sense of gratitude. They are grateful for what they see and have because they may have something less pleasant to compare it with. When they encounter a stressful situation, they look for ways to improve it versus letting it consume them. When a problem arises, they use it as an opportunity to find the most appropriate solution, rather than dwelling or magnifying all that's gone wrong.
The negative person works much differently. They expect negative results and when it happens, it only confirms what they'd originally predicted. They're more comfortable judging, gossiping or criticizing because putting others down offers them some relief from their pain. The negative person maintains the role of "victim" in a script she's written for herself. She feels other's are responsible for her "lot in life" and often uses it as an excuse to stay exactly where she is.
Within each of us is a broad range of emotions. An optimist doesn't only experience joy and the pessimist doesn't only experience negativity. It's just that the optimist chooses to expect happiness, success and pleasure and as a result, that's what they find. The pessimist chooses to replay negative thoughts which lead to negative results. It's a choice. We choose how we want to think, feel and act. Although we may be conditioned to think or react a certain way, if we don't like the results it is our choice to change. That's why if we're working towards changing the way we think, feel and react, it's important to be careful about the people you're spending your time with. Look for like minded people who support, encourage and inspire you. Limit your time with people who drain, upset and frustrate you.
This is your life. You are the driver of your car on the road to fulfillment, greater purpose and happiness. While there may be many detours, you have the power to steer yourself in whichever direction you choose to go. If you want to feel good, steer yourself towards an optimistic perspective and let your relationships support your cause. If you choose pessimism, misery loves company and you'll find many people welcoming you into their negative club. Life is a journey and we don't travel alone. Who are you bringing on your ride?

If you are one of the millions who have difficulty in starting and participating in conversations, you should realize that life's successes and failures are closely related to the quality of your communication skills.

The ability to converse effortlessly with those you encounter is a critical component of all your personal and business relationships.

Good communication skills promote an image of self-confidence and intelligence. This is not to say that those people who find it hard to strike up a conversation are less intelligent.

They simply need to develop the appropriate skills. If you need to improve upon your communication skills, here are a few tips to help you get started down the right path.

You can learn how to start a conversation and converse with anybody, anytime.

1. In order to make interesting conversation, you must be interesting to others. Keeping yourself informed on current events, staying involved in activities, and keeping a mental list of good topics of discussion are excellent ways to break the ice. And a great tool to help you learn how to start a conversation with almost anybody.

2. Instead of focusing on how uncomfortable you feel, prepare yourself by thinking of the issues that interest you most and what you would like to discuss about a particular subject.

A little preparation will go a long way in enabling you to easily converse with others. Don't be afraid to ask questions.

In general, people like to talk about themselves and will respond favorably when asked simple, friendly questions. Learning how to start a conversation is not quite as difficult if you prepare in advance.

3. Make an effort to be a good listener when starting a conversation. After you make the initial effort, listen closely to the other person's response.

Often you'll find an invitation to continue the conversation if you listen carefully and respond accordingly. Balance is the key in any conversation.

Alternate between talking and listening to what the other person is saying and make additional comments as appropriate.

Learning how to start a conversation is really just using good manners and showing a genuine interest in others.

4. Even if you find it extremely difficult, always greet those you encounter with a smile and look them directly in the eye.

It may be hard at first, but self-confidence is a learned skill and by acting confidently, you will gain new self-confidence.

Soon enough you will notice that it is not as hard to maintain eye contact and carry on a conversation. Act confidently and you will eventually become confident.

Developing self-confidence is an important part of learning how to start a conversation.

5. Try to remember small details about co-workers and acquaintances. Asking about a weekend plan or a relative is an excellent way to start a conversation and show genuine interest in those around you.

If you are interesting, attentive, and act with confidence you will appear to be the kind of person people like to have as a friend.

By practicing these new skills until they become second nature, you will increase your own self-esteem and learn how to start a conversation easily.

Learning how to start a conversation is really just a process of practicing your social skills until they become a habit.

Repetition and determination are the most important factors in building your level of confidence and conversing effortlessly in any situation.

Understanding the All Natural Beauty Products

Everybody wants to be beautiful naturally rather than being beautiful through high chemical content products. We know that there are people suffering from chemical sensitivities that are looking for all-natural beauty products that are 100% natural. All natural beauty products are what we consider to be truly healthy beauty products.

There are so many beauty products nowadays which contain different kinds of chemicals that some of us might not understand what that chemical really is. Also, we do not know what benefits they could give to us. I remember going to a store where different kinds of beauty products are on sale. I saw this whitening lotion and out of curiosity I picked it up and read the labels at the back. I was kind of surprise to see those different kinds of chemicals that are being used. I did not even finished reading it and put it back to the shelf. Just imagine how these chemicals could affect your skin. I would rather mash up the papaya pulp and apply to the surface of my skin

All natural beauty products must be considered to be the high standard beauty products that are being sold today. All natural beauty products and natural food have no difference. Just like natural food has become accepted and revered, natural beauty care is finally beginning to receive the credit that it deserves.  There are no strict standards in place to direct consumers to the real thing when it comes to completely natural.  So its buyer bewares, and be educated as to what constitutes a completely natural product.

We see a lot of beauty products using the word “natural”. But do not be deceive by them. When you see the word "natural" on a beauty product, it is basically meaningless and worthless.  This is a buzz word that is being used to attract you to buy those beauty products.  So you better read the ingredient labels very carefully as much as possible.  If you see any long chemical names that you can barely pronounce, there is a very good chance that it is not completely natural.

I may sound harsh but that is the truth. So, if you are using such chemical based products and even if you have been using that for years or decades, I would suggest that you compare your beauty products to food.  The skin that surrounds your entire body takes in a large portion of whatever is put onto it.  If you think that skin does not absorb, then think about birth control and Nicotine patches.  Yes, skin does absorb and it is presently absorbing toxins every day if you use beauty products that contain dangerous ingredients. It may be a small amount on a daily basis, but when used continually all through your life, it can be a large amount, some of which remains. These chemicals may have been tested for so many times, but just imagine when all of these chemicals are put into the body, they will basically merge with each other.  These combinations have not been tested.  So it simply means that you are the guinea pig.

All natural beauty products are not just an imitation that you are buying in stores everywhere. They are the real thing.  Different companies are coming ahead, bringing their wonderful, truly natural products to the market under the name all-natural or organic.  Just continue to read your labels. It is your time to give your skin the beauty that they need. In turn, your skin will thank you with radiant, healthy beauty.

The Big Ten: How to Add Years to Your Life

Behavior
1. Connect with others.  People with spouses, friends, and a rich social network live longer and have happier lives than isolated loners.
Potential Life Span Bonus: Up to 30 years

2. Live within your means.  Financial insecurity and worries about money are a major source of stress and premature aging.
Potential Life Span Bonus: 8 years

3. Eat your antioxidants.  These nutrients, found in fruit and vegetables, can reduce the risk of disease, including cancer.
Potential Life Span Bonus: 1.6 to 8 years

4. Take care of your teeth.  Daily flossing and brushing prevent the buildup of bacteria that could damage your blood vessels and immune system.
Potential Life Span Bonus: 6.4 years

5. Sleep seven hours a night.  People who get a good night's rest have lower mortality rates and more energy during the day.
Potential Life Span Bonus: 3 years

6. Don't stop studying.  Although scientists don't know why, lifelong learners and people with advanced educations live longer.
Potential Life Span Bonus: 2.5 years

7. Laugh.  Laughter may truly be the best medicine: it reduces anxiety and, more often stress and revitalizes the immune system.
Potential Life Span Bonus: 1.7 years, more if you laugh more often

8. Go outdoors.  Ten to 20 minutes of sunlight spurs production of vitamin D, which boosts immunity and cardiovascular function.  But too much sun accelerates aging.
Potential Life Span Bonus: 1.7 years

9. Eat breakfast.  No one knows exactly why, but eating breakfast correlates with a longer life.

Goals to Meet on the Path towards Personal Financial Security

Can money buy you happiness? That is a question asked by people for centuries. Ancient Egyptians buried themselves with their treasures to ensure happiness in the afterworld. In this century, it seems people are working themselves to the grave to get enough money to fill their needs.

Clearly, there is a definitive relationship between feeling in control of your finances and feeling happy about your finances and your life. Control over your finances plays a definitive role in controlling your life's happiness. Obviously, it is something worth striving for everyday. Here is some advice to achieving that kind of financial bliss.

•        Add a little organization? No one likes a reactive work environment. Reacting from crisis to crisis is not the best way to go about your work day. You’ve lost all faith in the concept of multitasking and work is piling up costing you time, money, and unneeded stress. The key to any successful business is being proactive. Start today and get yourself organized by cleaning up all that paperwork on your desk as a starting point.

•     Invest sensibly? Perhaps your mother told you one time “nothing saved equals nothing gained” when you were young. Truer words have never been spoken. It applies to all aspects of business. Think about your life after retirement. If you never invested into anything like a 401K then you have no retirement. We’re living long lives and you’re going to need more money saved up than ever before. Start saving and investing.

•     Less will do you. Hey, this is America where bigger is ALWAYS better, right? Well, not always. Just because something is the biggest, the best, or the newest doesn’t mean it will work for you. This is one of the main reasons we are seeing more and more people declare for personal bankruptcy. Control your urges and you’ll control your bank account.

•      Find work that fits? If you like your job and truly enjoy waking up everyday to go to the office, then there is a good chance you’ll live longer and make more money. In other words, it can pay to be happy. (Yes. I am aware that was a lame joke!)

•     Talk about money like it was gossip? There is nothing wrong with talking about money. The more we talk about it, the more we may learn something new. Plus, we keep too many secrets about money. Money is the leading cause of divorce in America. Talk about any money and financial concerns honestly, and save the fights for the in-laws.

•        Set goals? Seems like a pretty basic concept, if you know where you want to go then the easier it will be to get there. It is much easier to have a plan and stick to it for yourself than it is to treat everyday like a new adventure. Set a few long term goals to reach and some short term ones, as well.

•      Are you spending responsibly?? Some of us have a little problem with spending more than we make, especially you shopaholics out there. You know who you are! Keep track of what you spend any money on for a month and try to cut out anything unnecessary.

10 Ways to Improve Your Listening Skills

A good communicator must first be a good listener. However, while listening is a skill that is rather easy to acquire, it is often the one skill that is ignored. There are several advantages to effective listening:

* It can diffuse a volatile situation.
* It shows respect to the speaker.
* You just might learn something.
* It can lead to a revealing and interesting discussion.
* It is just good manners.

If you are lacking in the listening skills department, though, there are some things that you can start doing today to become a better listener. These tips can enable you to become a better listener and communicate at a higher level.

1. Make and maintain eye contact. Maintaining eye contact is an indication to the speaker that you are listening, but keep it at a level that is comfortable for both you and the speaker.

2. Face the person with whom you are communicating. When someone is talking to you, you can at least face them and give them the courtesy of looking at them. This indicates to them that you are listening and it eliminates potential distractions for you.

3. Get rid of distractions. Turn off the TV, put down the book, close the door and pay full attention to your speaker. Distractions can interfere with important pieces of what is being communicated to you. Your concentration should be on what the speaker is saying to you and you want to give them complete attention.

4. Let the speaker know that you are listening. Nod and give verbal acknowledgments appropriately. If you nod vigorously the entire time that the speaker is talking, it will distract both of you and indicate to them that you are not really listening at all. A simple 'yes' or nod and smile may suffice.

5. Think about what the speaker is saying, not what you are going to say next. Many times it is a natural tendency to think about what you are going to say when someone else is talking. You may be trying to form your comeback to what they are saying. In doing so you will most certainly miss some vital information if you aren't really listening.

6. Do not interrupt. You should not interrupt for several reasons. For one, you may only be getting just a part of what they want to tell you when you interrupt, two, it shows that you are not listening and three, it is just plain rude. If you have to grab a piece of paper and take notes about what is said, do it, and the address your concerns when it is your time to talk.

7. Maintain an open mind When the speaker says something that goes against your beliefs, your mind may want to scream in protest, but try to keep an open mind and listen to their defense and argument. You just might learn something.

8. Ask questions to make sure that you understand. Ask questions to clarify what is beingsaid. This way you can make sure that you understand what the speaker is saying.

9. Keep your body language neutral. Crossing your arms, putting your hands on your hips and turning away from the speaker are all indications that you are not listening, thus hindering your own ability to listen effectively. Keep your arms down at your sides and lean your body slightly in toward the speaker. This increases your listening ability and lets the speaker know that you are listening to them.

10. Realize that sometimes just listening is enough. Sometimes people just want to be heard without any response. Remember that it is OK to just listen from time to time.

Best Golden Tips for Beauty Sleep

Sleep is essential to keep you physically and mentally healthy.  A good rest has always been called beauty sleep.  If you want beautiful sleep exercise every day.  Even 20 minutes of walking can help keep stress hormones from interfering with your sleep.  Avoid large meals just before bedtime.  An active digestive system can disrupt sleep.  Minimize light, noise and temperature extremes.  Do not read, watch television, or work in bed.  Use the bed only to sleep.  This helps prevent you from developing sleep disorders.  Avoid caffeine, nicotine or other stimulants within four hours of bedtime.  Regulate blood sugar levels.  Eating regularly will avoid swings in blood sugar levels.  Do not eat too many carbohydrates like breads or pastas, especially in the evening.  Avoid foods that you may be sensitive to.  It is good for beauty sleep.

Use a moisturizer after bathing: Seal in the moisture that the topmost layer of your skin has absorbed with a hydrating body lotion or cream.  Because you're going to bed--not pulling on a silk blouse or cashmere sweater--you can try a body cream that's richer than you would feel comfortable wearing during the day, such as Nivea Body Renewal Night Cream.  Just before bed is a perfect time to slather your feet--especially dry heels--with a healing, hydrating cream such as Aveeno Intense Relief Foot Cream And a sweep of Sally Hansen Beyond Perfect Healing Cuticle Oil on your nails will keep the cuticles soft and prevent tears.  For a final moisturizing touch, massage your hands with Dove Regenerating Hand Cream

Some cosmetic products are susceptible to sunlight and you consequently get more out of them if you use them before bed.  Antioxidants such as vitamins C and E will stay active on your skin longer if you apply them at night.

Avoid caffeine, nicotine or other stimulants within four hours of bedtime.

If you have trouble getting sleep, avoid the temptation of swallowing a sleeping pill.  These pills do not induce a relaxed and natural sleep.  After an unnatural and forced sleep, you get up feeling most unfresh and headachy.  More than just that, it does terrible things to your looks.

If daily stress is affecting your sleep patterns, try a relaxation meditation.  Many commercial tapes and CDs are available that combine soothing music, nature sounds and a gentle spoken narrative that guides you through a process of visualizing yourself in some peaceful and serene environment where all your cares are washed away, leaving you refreshed and relaxed.

When looking for an herbal preparation to help you sleep, look for herbs which are 'nervines' or 'sedatives'; nervines calm and tone the nervous systems, while sedatives are stronger in their effects on the nerves.  If muscle tension is a factor in your insomnia, look for herbs that are 'antispasmodic'.  Herbs can have one, none, or all of these properties.

Getting a good night's rest refreshes the body, mind and attitude.  It is as vital to our health as good food and exercise.  The phrase "beauty rest" is more than a quaint idea, it is a fundamental task in the quest for external and internal beauty.

It is important, therefore, to obtain an adequate amount of sleep each night, since sleep also helps the body metabolize free radicals, which are thought to accelerate aging and cancerous growths.

The Big Ten: Keys to a Healthy Heart

1) Don’t smoke.  There’s no bigger favor you can do your heart–and lungs!

2) Watch your weight.  Even relatively modest gains can have a big effect on your risk of heart disease.

3) Cut down on saturated fats and cholesterol.  This could help prevent high blood cholesterol levels, obesity, and heart disease.

4) Get moving.  Engage in regular physical activity.  A little is better than none; more is even better.

5) Lower you stress levels.  If too much stress is a problem in your life, try relaxation techniques.

6) Know your family history.  Inheriting a predisposition to high blood pressure or heart disease means that your heart needs extra preventative care.

7) Get your blood pressure checked regularly.  Knowing your numbers can alert you to a potential problem long before you develop any symptoms.

8) Tame your temper.  Hostility can be hazardous to the heart.  Look for other ways of releasing anger and frustration.

9) Find out your cholesterol levels.  You can’t know if your heart is in danger unless you know if your cholesterol is too high.  Get a blood test at your next physical, and discuss the results with your physician.

10) Take appropriate medications.  Those with high cholesterol or high blood pressure should seek their physicians’ advice.

Strong Business Foundation Leads to Company Growth

There are several key steps that an organized business owner takes when creating a solid foundation for company growth, including researching target markets, establishing a budget, implementing a strong business plan and building a client base.  However, business owners also need to keep in mind that constructing a strong framework of employees, business partners and clients allows for a seamless flow of business-building ideas that can lead to overall company success.

Only the Best
Hiring self-motivated employees is paramount to growing a successful business.  It’s important to admit that one person cannot do it all, and as the owner of a growing business, don’t waste time bringing on individuals that require lessons in motivation.  Instead, business owners should strive to construct a strong network of support within a company.  In addition to a driven staff, assemble a pool of talent that can be tapped when the need to hire quickly arises.

It is critical for business owners to look for employees who are ready to step up, especially at small- to mid-sized businesses.  Successful business owners often advise their colleagues to, “hire slowly and fire quickly.”  One of the biggest mistakes made by business owners is not learning how to say “no” to employees.

It is also important to identify employees’ strengths and assign them to positions within the company where they will naturally excel.  Not everyone is management material, but by recognizing individual strengths, a business owner can create a work environment that fosters employee and company growth.

All Ears
Listen to employees.  Industry leaders agree that the next best idea can come from anyone at a company.  In order to encourage employee contributions and feedback, create a comfortable and open environment conducive to honest feedback and innovative thinking.  This can be accomplished by inviting employees to participate in company brainstorms or with accolades and encouraging words for winning ideas.

Another idea is to institute an employee contest or annual award program.  Offer rewards to those who produce ideas that result in company growth or contribute to office morale.

Additional Avenues of Support
Lastly, cultivating relationships with clients and mentors during periods of rapid growth is a firm way to make your company as strong as it can be moving forward.  In addition to building a strong internal team, reaching out to external resources allows business owners to have a foundation of support when looking to build expertise in areas of weakness.

When shifting into an accelerated growth mode, it is imperative that business owners established a competent team through trusting relationships with employees and business partners.  Constructing and establishing a dependable team of resources will serve as the iron-clad foundation for a company.

Good Manners in the Home

"Charity begins at home."

This is an old saying, but a very true one. Courtesy is an outgrowth of charity, and, hence should find its fullest expression in the home. Nowhere else are the conditions for the practice of courtesy more favorable than there. The danger, however, lies in the close intimacy which home life provides. You are apt to reserve the little niceties of life for those outside the family circle. Do your part to make your home the happiest, brightest, and most restful place in the world. Cultivate a cheerful spirit while in the house.  ..."A cheerful home is a happy home." Practice smiling at home. A smile goes a long way. So smile on the familiar faces of your family and friends. Let all enjoy the beauty and inspiring cheer of your smiling face.

What to Do When Your Favorite Product Has Been Discontinued

Every woman has her favorite makeup, skin care or beauty item. Some products are so tried and true that we often refuse to buy anything else. But what happens when the beauty product in your life becomes discontinued? It may seem like the end of the world but there are ways to lessen the pain and avoid dealing with such a loss in the future.

You may not want to accept it but things change over time. Many skin care, cosmetic and beauty items are discontinued in an attempt to introduce new products. Like it or not, this is a common marketing ploy that all major manufacturers use and while it may be hard to believe, they don’t do it on purpose to upset you. So what should you do if you find yourself in this situation? There are a few alternatives that you may or may not agree with but sometimes you just have to work with what you have.

Before jumping to conclusions, check to see if your favorite product has been replaced with new packaging or a new name. Often when manufacturers discontinue a product that has been around for a long time, it is because they want to introduce a new version of the same item. This can include brand-new labels, packaging, advanced formula, etc. So if you can’t find your favorite mascara or lipstick, look around and see if there is a similar product. Another way to find out if your item exists in a different form is to visit the company’s website. Often the website will list the new products, while adding the line, “formerly known as…”

If your product has indeed been discontinued, instead of pining for your lost love, take the next step like a big girl and find a replacement. This tends to be the most difficult part of the process but with all the options to choose from, you’re bound to find a great substitution that you can fall in love with. Visit the makeup or skin care counter where you bought your discontinued item and let them know your situation. They’ll immediately introduce you to their latest and greatest products. Be open-minded and try a little bit of everything. Take your time until you find something that meets your needs. Once you’ve purchased your new item, give it time to grow on you.

Not thrilled by looking for another product? Email or write a letter to the manufacturer. It can seem like a long shot but if there is enough demand for a particular item, the company may reconsider bringing it back if the consumers want it badly enough. The chances of this actually happening may be slim, but if you are a die-hard fan of your discontinued product, this is a great opportunity for the manufacturer to hear your voice.

The best way to avoid getting yourself into the discontinued rut is to stay away from items labeled “limited edition” or have any type of text stating that there is a limited supply. If you just have to have such an item, look for a similar product that works just as well that isn’t limited edition so you can turn to that once your favorite love has been pulled off the shelves (of simply stock up and buy in bulk!).

Physical Healing

Miracles of Healing are not of the old as some confess because God's Word says "I am the same yesterday, today and tomorrow." "The work that I do you will do; you shall do even greater works than Me", according to John 14:12. It does take faith though, faith of a mustard seed. Confess God's Word with authority over your body two times a day; it will increase your faith, and according to Isaiah 55:11, God's Words (the following scriptures) will not return to Him void. We are to return His Word to Him by giving it voice!!! "So shall my word be that goes forth out of My mouth: it shall not return to me void (without producing any effects, useless), but it shall accomplish that which I please and purpose, and it shall prosper in the thing in which I sent it." Isaiah 55:11. "I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the Lord; and I will heal him, according to Isaiah 57:19.

Healing Scriptures

You have forgiven all my iniquities; You have healed all my diseases; You have redeemed my life from destruction; You have satisfied my mouth with good things so that my youth is renewed as the eagles. Psalms 103:2-5

You have given me abundant life. I receive that life through Your Word and it flows to every organ of my body bringing healing and health. John 10:10; John 6:63
